Far Future Calling

  1. FAR FUTURE CALLING - An acrylic painting on a 16 x 20 size canvas board. It appears on the dust jacket of the book, "FAR FUTURE CALLING," by Olaf Stapledon, published by Oswald Train in 1979.

Oswald Train was one of the first publishers to hire me. I never met him in person or even talked to him on the phone. The Internet was just beginning to evolve, neither of us had a computer at that time, so email was not a possiblity either. A US Postman connected us, and when he delivered this assignment to me from Mr. Train I was very pleased, especially when I saw that the author was "Olaf Stapledon"!

Olaf Stapledon is widely considered the man who possessed the greatest imagination of the 20th century; in his book, "Last and First Men," he wrote, in incredible detail, about the future of the human race over the next two billion years! Including future changes in philosophy, music, art, architecture, sports, religion, biology, sociology, and science. He inspired many modern day science fiction writers who read his books. His name belongs next to the great masters of imaginative literature; Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne, and H.G. Wells.
